Replacement for inspect_bucket?

I am in the process of upgrading to Hammer 7. I was able to upgrade all of our usage, but one Hammer.inspect_bucket usage remains. This is used as part of a REST API and we need the remaining requests (which can be calculated by using get to know how many requests have been used and subtract that from the limit) and the reset time. I was not able to get the reset time in any way.

Is there a way to get that number?

you can call the get to see the usage remaining maybe? but that depends on the algorithm you pick now. I ll need to dig in the inspect_bucket from 6x to see what it was doing and see if this is something we want to add to 7x . PR welcome too :)

I am using the fixed window counter (default). The remaining count can be obtained by using get. But we also need the timestamp when the fixed window will expire, because we expose those in our API.

For this, I wrote this helper function:

def expires_at(key, scale) do
    key
    |> Hammer.Mnesia.FixWindow.full_key(scale)
    |> elem(2)
  end

This will only work with the fixed window.

I am happy to help add this, but I am not sure where to add it. Would you add it to the global API the same way get and others are implemented, e.g.:

yea I would say let s add a new API the same way for both ETS and Atoms . Then let's implement only the fix window (since that s the default people depend on like you) and then I will see over time if this is needed of other algorithm or not
