Don't inject HTML

I know both DDT and Hijack use a middleware to inject templates, but I don't find this a great approach.

Especially since most single-page apps won't even use the template engine.

I'd prefer a slightly more complicated but therefore more deliberate setup that allows me to flexibly drop the JS into the right place.

Can you consider injecting it into the admin by default. But a template should be enough for that.

Thanks for the feedback, Johannes! A few thoughts:

For SPAs: we've improved a lot and now the Chrome extension reads the DevBar-Data header, which works regardless of template engine or framework. This should cover SPA use cases without any HTML injection.

For traditional Django apps: The auto-inject behavior can be disabled via:

• DEVBAR["SHOW_BAR"] = False in settings
• Dynamically via the Chrome extension checkbox

We could even merge SHOW_BAR into POSITION - if POSITION is None (which potentially could be the default), the HTML bar won't be injected. This reduces configuration surface.

Template tag: We could also add an optional {% devbar %} template tag or a web component for users who want explicit control over placement, but this will complicate the initial setup a bit.

What do you think about these options?

Hm… let's assume there's no Django template engine, because we run a different frontend stack. I think that's fairly common. Maybe a web component would be nice that I can just drop somewhere.
