CrossOver 2021: The next iteration

CrossOver has been upgraded, inside and out, in big ways

Frontend

New, more streamlined look! I also gave up on centering the app across all screens and made the main window symmetrical in order to make the app center correctly, every time. Click the gear to change settings, and the bullseye to change crosshairs. Double-click the bullseye to center.

  • Fedora Linux multi-desktop shortcut conflicts with CrossOver arrow movement shortcut, custom shortcuts are coming (#20)
  • You can now double click the bull's-eye to center the app in Windows and Linux as well, hopefully (fixed in #32)
  • The experience on Linux is much closer to that of MacOS and Windows and some app-breaking bugs have been fixed (namely transparency, #24)
Backend

We have finally upgraded Electron. CrossOver was 5(!) versions behind due to an upstream bug that was fixed. That means security updates as well. The app has been rewritten ton use contextBridge on Mac and Windows (not linux, #50).

Fallbacks were added in case of crashes or blank screens

  • Packages are available for 32-bit systems! If you're a procrastinator who's waited to upgrade... keep waiting because we support you too (#35). More packages types have been added in Snap and Rpm formats.
What's next?
  • Custom keybinds (#20)
  • More Settings (#16, #36), with a cleaner look
  • More Stability and more cross-platform improvements

Thanks for using CrossOver!
