Hmm. This is indeed interesting. I am not sure why that is. Can you export Display Information... when it doesn't work and when it does? Additionally, can you start the app with logging to see if there is anything weird going on?

I meant under the display's pane in BetterDisplay settings. There should be an option there to export all the info. |

And when it works over the Thunderbolt HUB? Does DDC detection work in any configuration? |

Interestingly it seems to me DDC communication is happening as far as the Mac is concerned. For the DDC read attempt there is reply in all logs (although the data received is junk, but that happens with some displays/connections so not a big deal and should not affect sending data or controlling the display). This might be some kind of UGREEN dock firmware issue. Maybe MonitorControl communicates in a slightly different way and that kicks the dock into a different mode of operation internally somehow which then afterwards makes BetterDisplay work as well, fixing whatever the issue is (although BetterDisplay's communication should be better). It might be a good idea to reach out to UGreen and see if they can troubleshoot the issue maybe or confirm if DDC communication is working properly, as they might be able to monitor what is happening internally and how the dock handles i2c data. You can try whether m1ddc works and kicks the dock into the "proper mode", similarly to MonitorControl. If it does, you might be able to hack things to work by simply periodically sending some scheduled command via m1ddc or sending a command on startup and wake - so things work afterwards. This is of course a workaround but better than nothing. |

I converted this into a discussion - let's see whether others have this issue as well. |

DCC analysys show me this both connecting directly to mac and on the ugreen dock. I can try to contact ugreen and show him this thread in order to know if they can help us.
now i'm trying m1ddc... |

okay, m1ddc works fine so i created a command that when the betterdisplay app opens up, m1ddc sets up the brightness of the screen to 10. After that, the betterdisplay app works perfectly with no issues. not a good workaround, could be good if we can solve this issue, but for now works very well. |

Hello, i have a very strange issue:
when i connect my display (LG 27UP650K) to my Mac, betterdisplay works fine. But when i use my new Ugreen Revodok Max 2131 (Thunderbolt 5) to connect my monitor via USBC, Better display is not working. I try to control the brightness of the screen but it only control the software part and not the hardware.
I tried to install the old Monitor Control app and it works fine, also when my monitor is connected to the Thunderbolt 5 port the brightness and volume control works fine.
The strange thing comes now: if i open Monitor control and quit it, and after that i try to use BetterDisplay: incredibly better display is working fine. If i reboot the system and open only betterdisplay, is not working. But if i make this move (open monitorcontrol, quit it, open better display) it works.
using BetterDisplay 4.1.1
